The Keelung Fortress Commander Headquarters, located in Zhongzheng District, was an important military command center in northern Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. Its location, with mountains behind it and the sea in front, allowed it to monitor the harbor, giving it strong defensive value. Over time, it has been transformed into a cultural and creative park that combines history with the arts. It now displays military culture and promotes local culture. The buildings were designed to deal with the humid climate. They have raised foundations, waterproofing, and good ventilation. The roof colors were also chosen to blend into the surroundings, helping with camouflage. This shows how military design was combined with nature. In 2006, the site was designated as a municipal historic monument, making it an important cultural asset of Keelung.
