族生活空間及領地以家族為標界,如某條溪流上游是莊家所有,下游是溫家所有,某獵場屬於汪家所有等,更鞏固了家族間的關係。

鄒族是以男性為主的社會,男子集會所為部落的地標,家屋使用亦反映性別分野,例如阿里山鄒族的將面向家屋東方的前門定義為男性出入口,西方的後門為女性出入口。

該族傳統住屋以茅草搭蓋,主屋旁設有獸骨架(hufu)做為放獸骨、武器和各種禁忌品之處,女性不得接近。

The living space and territory of the Tsou (Cou) people are demarcated by lineage groups. For example, the upstream of a certain stream is owned by the Zhuang family, the downstream is owned by the Wen family, and the hunting ground is owned by the Wang family, which further consolidates the relationship between the families.

Tsou (Cou) has a patriarchal society and the use of buildings is reflected by it. For example, the east-facing door is the front entrance used by men only, while the door facing west is the back door used by women. Also, there is a space next to the house for placing animal skulls, weapons and various forbidden items, which women are not allowed to approach. The men's assembly hall, in particular, is the landmark of the tribe. It is where men make decisions for the tribe and so women are not allowed inside.

達邦社集會所(Kuba)
建於部落的中央,是部落會議、訓練及重要儀式進行的場所。為長方形干欄式無壁建築。為長方形干欄式無壁建築。以粗大的檜木、樺木、鳥心石本等圓木為支架,屋頂覆蓋著厚實茅草,並以竹條綁壓固定。會所中央火塘,終年不滅,代表鄒族生生不息;目前只有在舉行凱旋祭時開放,平時少有人在此活動。

Kuba/ Male Assembly Hall in Tapangu
Kuba is an assembly hall built in the center of the tribe that is used by men for hosting tribal meetings, training and important ceremonies. It is a rectangular wooden-columned, open structure with thick thatch roof.

達邦社住家
以竹材為壁,茅草覆頂,住屋周圍以低矮的石垣環繞呈圓形。石垣外側畜養牲口,主屋外堆放柴薪及烹煮牲口飼料。屋子有前後二個入口,竹床設於屋內四角;中央有火塘,上方設放置食器的籐架;屋內有兩個穀倉及獸骨架。

Traditional Tsou (Cou) House in Tapangu Village
The house has bamboo walls and a thatched roof with two entrances, front and rear. It is surrounded by a circular stone fence, where animals are kept on the other side of the fence. The fire pit in the center of the house is used for cooking.

漁具小屋
是收藏漁撈用具及煮魚器具之處。鄒族人有不得在屋內煮食漁獲的禁忌,煮魚的鍋子亦不得煮小米,此點與阿美族認為小米精靈不喜魚腥相似。鄒族人所有祭典也禁止食用魚類。

Fishing Gear Shed
Tsou (Cou) people have a taboo of cooking fish inside the house, and the pot for cooking the fish is not allowed to cook millet. So, This place is to store fishing gear and fish-cooking utensils.

來吉社住家
建於阿里山鄉,由於不是本家,屋內沒有舉行祭祀儀式的場所,配置較簡單,住屋中央有一火塘,竹床兩張、穀倉一個,前後各開一門。

Traditional House in Laiji Village
Originally built in Alishan Township, this house has a firepit, two bamboo beds, a grain storage and a door on both ends of the house. As this is not the main home there is no place for sacrificial ceremonies in the house.

特富野社住家
主屋以外,尚有豬舍、雞舍、置薪場及獸骨架。整個住家呈不規則型,主屋為長方縱深式建築,有前、後二門;屋內中央有火塘,六個竹床,各以竹壁隔間,另有三個穀倉,分別位於入口、左、右兩側。屋外有一大型高架式獸骨架,堆放有上百個山豬頭骨。

Traditional House in Tfuya Village
A traditional home includes the main house, pigsties, chicken coops, and animal bone racks. The main house is a rectangular building with a front and a back door. There is a firepit in the center of the house, six bamboo beds, each separated by a bamboo partition, and three barns, which are located on both sides of the entrance.
